Mutarjim & Tahadath Services will allow customers to translate words between Arabic and English and vice versa. The new services will also provide help on how words are pronounced (transliteration).

Mutarjim service (90998):
For the translation of English or Arabic via Mutarjim, customers simply send a text message containing the word or phrase to 90998. Nawras will respond with the original text and translation by return SMS. For example, customers can send ‘thank you’ and will receive a return message containing the word شكرا)).

Tahadath service (90997):
The same straightforward instructions apply when receiving the phonetic version of a translated word using Tahadath. The only difference being that the word or short message should be sent to 90997 so the SMS response will show the transliteration. For example, sending the word ‘thank you’ will generate the response ‘Shukran’.


When sending the SMS, both services are charged at Nawras’ usual low SMS rate with each request of up to 160 characters sent in English or up to 70 characters in Arabic being priced at only 10 Baisa. When sent messages exceed this standard size, using up to 300 English characters for example, customers would be charged the equivalent of two messages i.e.20 Baisa.

Each reply SMS that customers receive will be 30 Baisa based on the same standard sizes. It should be noted that the size of messages sent and received can vary as translating from English to Arabic usually takes more characters. A single message sent in English may require a longer response in Arabic which would count as two messages for billing purposes, if it exceeds 70 characters.
